Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American singer and actress whose dramatic versatility earned her praise in a variety of genres from period drama to thriller and action adventure. Johansson is the daughter of a film director as well as an architect. The family is from New York City. The twin brothers Hunter and her were among the youngest of siblings. When she was just seven an old, the actress started making auditions for TV commercials. To improve her acting skills, she joined classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Manhattan followed by she attended the Professional Children's School. In the Off Broadway play Sophistry she co-starred with Ethan Hawke. She then made her first film appearance on screen in North (1994) which was directed by Rob Reiner, at age nine. Johansson subsequently appeared in Just Cause (1995) but her breakthrough was Manny & Lo (1996) an upcoming film that follows orphaned sisters who run away. The Horse Whisperer (1998), in which Johansson plays an teen girl who has an ailment, was well-loved by reviewers. In the following years, she gained fame as cynical teenager Rebecca on the film Ghost World. Much like many other new actresses have done, she decided to further develop her skills in theater. She was involved in various USA projects while making her debut on stage with Wildflower. She studied at the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory part of the New York University's Tisch School of the Arts'.
